Vexes are small flying hostile mobs summoned by Evokers. They're notorious for dealing high damage, passing through blocks, and swarming players. Here are reliable ways to deal with them.

Use a plugin (easiest for servers)

For Spigot/Paper servers, the Vexxed plugin by AvatarKage automatically removes all vexes summoned by a specific Evoker when that Evoker is defeated. This is perfect for raids and Woodland Mansions where you don't want to deal with lingering vexes.

  • Download Vexxed from SpigotMC
  • Place the .jar in your server's plugins/ folder
  • Restart the server
  • Defeat Evokers as normal - all of their vexes will be removed automatically

Vanilla methods

  • Kill them directly - Vexes have 14 HP and can be killed with any weapon, though their mobility makes them tricky.
  • Use area damage - Splash potions, TNT, or other AoE effects can clear groups faster.
  • Build defensively - Since vexes phase through blocks, walls won't stop them. Focus on mobility and crowd control.
  • Remove the Evoker source - Vexes are summoned by Evokers and will remain until killed or the world is reloaded in some edge cases. Killing the Evoker doesn't immediately despawn vexes in vanilla.

Notes

In vanilla Minecraft, killing the Evoker does not remove its vexes - you must kill them separately. Plugins like Vexxed solve this quality-of-life issue by clearing them on Evoker death.
